One of the drawbacks with the traditional mechanical casino slots machines and their coin acceptors is that they were sometimes prone to various cheating methods and devices. One of the most well known examples of cheating the slots machines involved the method of spinning a coin on a short piece of plastic wire. Since a real coin was used, its weight and size would be seen as normal by the slots machines and the appropriate credits would be granted to the player/scammer. The spin that was created by the plastic wire however, would result in the coin exiting through the reject chute and end up in the payout tray of the machine. Thankfully for casino owners and slots machines operators, this scam has largely fallen out of fashion because of many improvements in the newer casino slot machines.

Almost all of the modern slots machines that you will come across today are controlled by EPROM computer chips and many of the larger casinos have replaced the antiquated coin acceptors with more secure bill acceptors. In addition, these newer slots machines and bill acceptors have been designed with advanced anti-cheating and anti-counterfeiting devices and are quite difficult or impractical to cheat.
